Freelance Scam: Envelope Stuffing Scam
Tuesday, February 9, 2010
Before there were online freelance scams, there was a big hype of work at home jobs, and those work at home jobs could be of any kind. One such work at home scam was the envelope stuffing scam. The envelope stuffing cam has taken up a lot of gullible dollars in its time, and today, though it is not quite heard of, I am sure that it is present somewhere in this world.
What was a Envelope Stuffing Scam?
Basically, a person would be offered a work at home job through the classifieds in the newspapers, or the common advertorials or even fliers, about a work at home opportunity that would make them say a $1000 or a $2000 within a week. All they had to do is to pay some token amount to the person who was offering this job. Once the token money was paid, the person would be provided with a envelope and documents which would be basically their 'job'
And that is where the person understands that the work at home job is a scam, because the documents are basically the same flyers that they got in either their mailbox or even while just moving around on the street. Basically, the person is just advertising a job that he or she has got when someone else used the same mechanism?
One of the first things to understand while looking at a freelance or work at home position is whether some product or service is actually be sold legally and in the open market or not. It is only when some product or service is sold, that one can be at least be sure that there is some business plan that is in motion, other than taking your money, printing some ads and then sending it to someone else.
This seems stupid, does it really work?
Immensely. Even today, there are so many work at home scams that are successful that you would be surprised at the number of people who can be so gullible as they were when they actually fell for the scam. It has worked so nicely, or badly, whatever the case may be, that the Feds are actually beginning to investigate this entire envelope stuffing business.
Wait! I was born for Envelope Stuffing! I want to do it and I want to make money from it!
Try your local post office, or you could even volunteer to work anywhere where they really need someone to post envelopes on a bulk basis. They would be paying a little more than the minimum wage.
